Good morning.  As you know, we thought we could cancel Schellville using our lot but found out that there may be a MOU for this year.  As a result, we have met with the representative and given dates that the lot can’t be used either the entire day or after 5:30 depending on when our activities are going on.  We owe it to those that rent the building to have parking. We will be having some lengthy discussions after the season to determine if there is a path forward or if we stop it all together.  Until then, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!  I know this is a busy time and I appreciate anything anyone of you can do to help.

I worked the lot yesterday from noon until about 5:30. The lot needed to be closed all day because of a concert in the evening.  Here is what I found out:

Starting about 12:30, volunteers working the early time at Schellville start arriving.  We are needed to stand at the entrance and not allow them into the lot.  Between 12:30 and about 2:00, I turned away over 65 cars.  Some drove in trying to get in because they were told to park here (even though the rep from Schellville told us they were informing days the lot was not usable).  Others saw the signs we post stating “Church event parking only” and sort of turned out and kept going.  It amazed me how many were somewhat miffed….

Starting about 2:45 ish, a lot of the workers and vendors began to show up and again, I turned them away…probably another 30-40.  DelDOT arrived about 4 and set up the signs that stated no parking in the lot, and they monitored the back entrance for us to keep people from coming in that way.  As 4 approached, there became s steady stream of cars with workers and attendees.  All the while, because it was a school day, the Boys and Girls club had parents coming and Pre-school parents streamed in around 2.  So the monitor at the entrance is needed to determine who can get in and who cant.

DelDOT does a great job in helping us at the entrance starting around 4:15 but they need a church person there to determine when to open, who can come in, etc.  There are a few new customers renting the building and we don’t know expectations of attendees so we have closed the lot to be sure.

There are some short days where the lot only needs to be ‘guarded’ from noon until abut 3:30-4.  There are three more days that noon until about 7:30 is needed.  Even though the sign up says 8 PM, once the concert or event is well underway, we can open the lot

I am asking everyone to look at the sign up genius and take a two hour block.  Once DelDOT arrives, it can be done with one person so we really only need two from noon until 4 (although company is always better!!!!)

HERE IS THE NEED – Dee and I are taking today

today December 2. Our last event is a concert 3-5 PM. Same group as last night. I will be there and we can probably allow Schellville Parker’s in after about 3:30-4 ish

* December 9th – Funeral noon – 3 PM. This is the shortest one.  Can get there a little before noon and leave by 2:30 ish   1 shift

*December 10th.  Closed completely. This is Yule Love It 3-5 PM. and then a Grieving support group service 6:30-8. This is a new group for us so we have no way to tell how big so closing to be sure. 4 shifts

*December 15th. Concert Mid Atlantic Symphony 7-9. Closed all day. 4 shifts

*December 16th.  Our event.  Cookie Walk 10-2.  Neighborhood HOA meeting 9:30-11:30. Concert Sodelo. Noon – 4 PM. Our volunteers all day to wrap Christmas gifts for underprivileged children. Dee and I will be there early for early arrivals unless someone wants this time.  Assume we can allow the Schellville people in after the people are in for the  concert but I need to verify with Sue Brenton. Not sure how many volunteers are coming to wrap.  One shift approximately 2-4:30 (may be shorter once I talk to Sue Brenton)

*December 18th. Closed all day. Concert 7-9 PM. Encore Creativity concert. New group so no idea how busy. 4 shifts
