This is our first attempt at a Conference-wide Legislative Advocacy Event in Dover. Please JOIN US! Topics for engaging with legislators are: Housing Justice and Economic Equity, Gun Violence Prevention, and Environmental Justice. You will need to choose one for the morning workshop at Wesley UMC Dover.

Arrive at Wesley UMC at 9:30am. Best to park at or near Legislative Hall, since the church has VERY limited parking. Parking is available in the Delaware Public Archives, the Tatnall Building, and the Delaware Federal Credit Union lots. Handicapped parking and handicapped access are located on the east side of the building. Here is a map of parking information for Legislative Hall:

The State Capitol building is open to the public Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. excluding some holidays.  Please note, that anyone entering the building must go through the security checkpoint located on the West Side Entrance of the building which faces the Legislative Mall.  All visitors must present a government issued photo ID to enter the building (I have to say that I’ve never been asked for mine).  When the General Assembly is in session, the building is open until the close of the legislative day.

Let’s talk about food, because, you know – we’re United Methodist.

There will be a light continental breakfast provided upon your arrival so you may grab something prior to your workshop. This will be set up in the Student Ministry Building in back of the church.

Lunch is not provided, to keep the event free. Here are the options:

1) There are many eateries on Route 13. If you are staying only until 2pm (when the General Assembly goes into session on most days), you may decide to stop and enjoy a late lunch on the way home. If you have a favorite franchise, trust me, it’s somewhere on Route 13.

2) April 27^th is an event day! Numerous Environmental Justice activist organizations will be present. Therefore, we will enjoy the opportunity to sample some Dover area food trucks that also will be at Legislative Hall during lunchtime. This is ONLY because of the special events happening this particular day.

4) Legislative Hall also has its own cafeteria. However, I cannot guarantee that it will be open on the same day that food trucks will be present. Here is access to their normal menu, in case they are open:

4) If you live in or near the Dover area, you may want to have lunch upon returning home if you are not staying for event activities or to observe the assembly session.
