You may have noticed a new logo popping up on the website, in publications, and on signs around Epworth church. The new logo results from conversations that I've been having with Leanne Walling and Mike Duer for the past year, following a nine-module church communications training program by Brady Shearer called Pro Church Certified. A couple of months ago, we audited our existing logo using the rubrics provided by the ProChurch material and found it to be confusing and busy. The logo you see to the left, a lighthouse with cross centered at the top and a beam of light above our name, Epworth Rehoboth Beach, is the result of several conversations and a good bit of prayer about a symbol that communicates what God is doing among us at Epworth.
This process was not the result of weeks or months of committee conversations and votes, but my observations and graphic design sense as I fall more deeply in love with what God is doing among us at Epworth as we explore faith and embrace community. We are a beacon of hope for this community, distributing food, love, and hospitality to all for celebrations and conversations about becoming a community more faithful to God and to each other. And we’re also near the beach (so the color scheme for the logo and our web page leans into a coastal aesthetic)!
As your Pastor of Media and Communication, I’m excited to start a conversation about how best to symbolize what God is doing among us, and I look forward to hearing what you think of this new representation.
