Subject: Incident at SkatePark on Wednesday, March 5, 2025
I wanted to make the church aware of an incident at the skatepark Wednesday afternoon around 12:30pm. My son and I frequent and love the skate park and normally feel safe there. However, on Wednesday afternoon we were verbally accosted by an older male on a blue bike who was trying to call my 4 year old over to him by saying “Hey pretty baby girl, come over here” a couple times and my child from on top of the embankment said “I am a boy” and the man screamed, pardon my language here, “What the fuck” at my child and then turned at me and started screaming extremely hateful language at me and then back to my son. My son has long blonde hair and at the time was wearing a salmon colored shirt, and scooting on a hand me down pink scooter. In our household we believe that all colors are for everyone and hairstyles don’t specify gender. The man was so enraged he was not a little girl that he kept screaming awful things to us. He was so loud and aggressive that a woman who lives in the loft apartments came out on her balcony and took photos. I rushed to get my son and myself into our car and away from the skate park as fast as possible. As we were leaving, the woman shouted down to me that she has photos and can call the cops. I exchanged numbers with her but the man was still yelling and my son was so upset that I just wanted to leave. I’m not sure what the best way to go about something like this would be because I prefer to stay anonymous but I would also not want this to happen to another person. The woman that took the photos said she is okay to be a witness and I can share her information along with the photos if that could help at all. Please let me know how I can make this situation better. Thank you.
