Advent: The Messiah Comes to Us… (Nov. 28, 2021 – Dec. 2, 2022)

We make jokes about Christmas starting the day after Halloween, but the relentlessly cheery 60-day retail assault leaves us empty, weary, and longing for a joy that endures – a living joy that can’t be commodified. It seems even worse in this new post?-Covid landscape, with so many of our social, cultural, and emotional foundations rocked. We don’t know how to mourn too many dead, or a virus that has attacked our nation’s soul as well as our bodies.

We are still waiting for Jesus to bring us peace. And this waiting time we call Advent, so out of place in our same-day-delivery world, might just be the antidote we need for the sales job that has become the Christmas season. We who wait on Christ call it Advent season, culminating on Christmas Day. This Advent, we focus on the Messiah, our King of Peace, who comes to us in many ways – just when we had exhausted our strength looking for him.
