On behalf of the 52 musicians who offer themselves in worship every Sunday, we wish to thank the congregation for their ongoing support and outpouring of gratitude we received for Music Appreciation Sunday on June 26. It was a small miracle that the service even happened as we had a rather serious outbreak of COVID in the choir last month forcing us to miss two full weeks of rehearsal and services. As a preventative measure I reduced the Praise Team to a handful of singers to ensure we could maintain a safe distance.
The pandemic brought about many changes to the music program, but despite the cause I believe the overall effect has been very positive. The Chancel Choir has seen more growth in the past two years than we’ve had in a decade allowing us to explore new musical possibilities, and when the Bell Choir returns from their summer hiatus we will have a full complement of ringers for the first time in several seasons.
After working with a smaller Praise Team through the month of June, it felt like it was time to restructure the group. For the next several months we’ll have a maximum of five singers. This will allow me to concentrate on individual singers and raise the bar on our overall musicianship. Our Sight & Sound team welcomed the change as fewer singers makes it far easier to mix the sound for our in-person congregation and our friends watching the services online.
