Lent: Discipled & Discipling (Mar. 2 – Apr. 17, 2022)
Lent, a Middle English word that means spring, is a season of preparation for followers of Jesus for 40 days (not including Sundays) from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. The season and our practices that mark the season are fraught with powerful symbolism. This Lenten Season at Epworth, we will be gathering around stories from scripture about what it means to follow Jesus – discipleship – and what it means to learn and to teach this timeless way of our faith in Christ that leads to life. Just as we learn best by doing, we also teach most powerfully (and continually learn) by living out our discipleship in practical ways every day of our lives. We spend most of our time in the Gospels, with Jesus and his disciples, as Jesus makes his way inexorably to Jerusalem. The cross awaits him there, we know – but through the cross, freedom and abundant life for us all.
