Maureen Knesel joined the Epworth staff as Kitchen Sexton on May 1 after the SPRC approved her hire. Maureen has been volunteering at Epworth United Methodist Church distributing food to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity from 2021 – present. She manages the Tuesday morning team – setting up the distribution point; arranging to have individuals cover assigned areas; making sure all items needed are available (kids packs, eggs, apples, potatoes/onions, packaged foods carts, produce carts); working with the Abel Room staff to get refills, checking on availability, etc.; and coordinating clean up at the end of shift.

Maureen recently retired from Montgomery County Public Schools (MD) where she was employed as a high school special education teacher for Learning and Academic Disabilities students. She co-taught in math classes for general education students as well as special needs students and worked with co-teachers to inform of special considerations of students as well as presentation of material.

As Epworth’s Kitchen Sexon, Maureen will be working closely with our Food & Love Teams to provide support for major cleaning and upkeep of equipment and coordination of food supplies in the walk-in for Sunday dinners.

Welcome Maureen!
